Grace Ormonde

November 20th, 2008

We are so excited.  THE one and only Grace Ormonde sent Dawn Shields to photograph one of our designs for the fall 2009 issue of Grace Ormonde!  Dawn is a fabulous photographer, so hopefully she will make us look even better on a national magazine page! She is based in Springfield Missouri but regularly shoots St. Louis brides. No guarantees we will get space in the mag but we are hopeful.

We transformed our shop building space into a faux area.  Kristin Meyer our wonderful scenic artist painted the murals to compliment our theme.  Light airy to resemble a Monet picture.  Webbed fabric room canopy, with a fountain of crystals lit in the center of the room. Lots of blues and cool colors.  Rich West of RWdesigns provided our awesome dogwood centerpieces.  They were perfect! And Premier Rentals donated the tables, chairs, linens, and all the rentals! We are so grateful.

Now we just wait and see if we made it in the magazine………..

Forty Years of Fabulous

November 14th, 2008

We just completed some special lighting for this really great 40th birthday party.  I want to throw a party like this for my best friend!  It was a surprise party for a really sweet lady given to her by her boyfriend, mom, daughter, and best friend, and I hope she had an amazing time.

The location was The Foundry Arts Centre which is pretty cool space.  I love a venue with history and this one has great history.

My before picture of The Foundry during the day.  Then the dance floor gobo and room lighting.

Chandler Hill Winery

November 9th, 2008

Gorgeous place to spend a lazy afternoon sipping wine and cuddling by the fireplace.  A brand new location that just opened.  It is only 30 minutes from St. Louis and is GORGEOUS.

We were called by Shelli Alred of Alred Wedding Consultants to provide a beautiful and colorful outdoor Indian wedding ceremony.  And gorgeous and colorful it was but FREEZING!  Rotten luck our beautiful weather ran out just before this day.  We took a few warming breaks from setup indoors from the cold and wind along the way, but the bride was determined not to let the cold weather stop her vision.  This ceremony Mandap was on the terrace overlooking rolling hills and wine vineyards. To accent the orange, pink and red fabric at the Ceremony we washed the entire area in accenting pink and hung lanterns under the outdoor lounge.  While the ceremony was no doubt a quick one indoors the reception and dance floor were sure to be packed under a canopy of fabric and lanterns accented by candles.

The staff at Chandler Hill are so accommodating and generous, and you cannot beat Shelli’s calm and professional personality!  Another great weekend!

One of the best Fundraisers of the year.  Benefiting Siteman Cancer Center.  Amit at Synergy LLC produced this great event at Lumen. Our contribution was the Lounge as well as the DJ Bridge.  Made in our shop, it was painted to go with the urban them of the evening.

Candle Walls

November 3rd, 2008

This bride was so great.  One of the first questions I ask a potential client is “what is your general theme or direction of your event”?.  Her answer was “excessive candles”.  And she was NOT kidding!

I LOVE IT!  I have been waiting to hear those words for a long time.  I have an ongoing list of favorite things for events, and excessive candles is on it.

We were located in the Windows Off Washington East room.  And there were literally candles everywhere, and excessively is right.  We spiced up the dance floor with simple white paper lanterns, and in keeping with the theme, we created the very large candle walls behind the head table.

The main concern was not to block the view from the windows but to create more of an area to load with candles.  The walls were virtually invisible, they were huge and a perfect backdrop to a humongous head table.

Windows On Washington- 8th Floor

October 29th, 2008

Windows On Washington 8th floor never fails to be a great place to have a memorable reception. Caline Rutter at Windowsis one of the nicest venue event coordinators. If you are considering Windows as an event location, Caline will take good care of you.

We played with lighting color a bit. Changing it up a bit with a light rust color vs amber for this beautiful reception. I love the lanterns for the cocktail hour and switching to all fabric for dinner and dancing. We also tried something new on the dance floor using small pearls intertwined with the fabric. Dinner had already started once it grew dark so no close up shots of the dance floor, but I am so grateful to have some beautiful room shots.

Hopefully this wonderful client had a truly perfect day.

The Worlds Fair Pavilion-Oct 12th 2008

October 19th, 2008

My last Worlds Fair Pavilion work of the year. Sunday October 12th was a beautiful warm day.  This client really had the best weather! This very busy couple was from California and did most of their planning from out of town.  Christy Ricker of All Dressed in White contacted me to design something different for her couple than what had been done before at The Worlds Fair Pavilion.  I am so grateful Christy trusted me to please her client, I have always wanted an opportunity like this.

It honestly was a dream come true for me. The bride gave me the direction ” no white, make it look whimsical, yet elegant…now go do it”.  AHH!! HEAVEN! This is the end result and it turned out better than what I even had pictured in my mind.  The shadows the fabric created at different levels was an unexpected happy surprise.

I used deep red silk for optimal draping and one tone of light and allowed the fabric color and layers to do all the work for me.

The linens were a deep antique gold color, the flowers were gorgeous red and circus roses from Bloomin Buckets, expert coordination from Christy Ricker and her team of All Dressed In White, and catering by St. Louis Catering.

Rose of the Hill

October 17th, 2008

Really beautiful venue owned by a really nice family.  A family owned business, which has a special place in my heart.  Just a small example of how just a touch of light can make a party.

The goal here was to create over the dance floor a starry night sky looking through a trellis of leaves. It is pretty fun to use the ceiling for dance floor lighting.
